Steve McQueen, himself a championship driver, did most of his own driving on the harrowing 8.5 mile Le Mans course – often at speeds exceeding 200 miles per hour. There are no less than 45 international racing stars that was there on that course that day.
If you had attended Rennsport Reunion IV you could have see a number of these mesmerizing 917s plus get to experience them as they zipped past you on the track.
GULF OIL, main sponsor of this fabulous entry needed extremely deep pockets to endulge not just one of these cars but several dozen.
The 1971 film was produced by Robert E. Relyea and Jack N. Reddish. Lee H. Katzin directed this panavision executed G rated film.
